Description
Congress has made several attempts in recent years to tackle the high costs of prescription drugs. The most current iteration of these proposals in the Build Back Better Act (BBBA) would limit drug prices for certain drugs dispensed to Medicare patients and, for the first time, allow Medicare to negotiate the prices of those drugs. Provisions of the BBBA would also impose inflationary penalties that are expected to lower prices for all purchasers over time. All of these provisions would impact 340B savings. This session will provide a history of recent legislation on drug pricing, describe the drug pricing provisions in the Build Back Better Act, and discuss how drug pricing legislation could impact 340B providers.

Learning objectives:
  • Outline the drug pricing provisions of the Build Back Better Act.
  • Describe how this legislation could affect spending on prescription drugs.
  • Discuss how this legislation could impact 340B savings.
  • Identify the variables that would determine the impact on my 340B program.
